Principle of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human NPS antibody. NPS present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human NPS Antibody is added and binds to NPS in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated NPS antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human NPS. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

This gene encodes a secreted ligand of the TGF-beta (transforming growth factor-beta) superfamily of proteins. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature protein. This protein signals through the RET receptor tyrosine kinase and a GPI-linked coreceptor, and promotes survival of neuronal populations. A neurturin mutation has been described in a family with Hirschsprung Disease. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2016]

Might control the size of non-neuronal cell population such as haemopoietic cells. Genetic variations in NRTN may contribute to Hirschsprung disease, in association with mutations of RET gene, and possibly mutations in other loci. Hirschsprung disease is a disorder of neural crest development is characterized by the absence of intramural ganglion cells in the hindgut, often resulting in intestinal obstruction. Belongs to the TGF-beta family. GDNF subfamily.
