Biological Significance
Platelet Derived Growth Factor is a potent mitogen for a wide range of cell types including fibroblasts, smooth muscle and connective tissue. PDGF, which is composed of a dimer of two chains termed the A chain and B chain, can be present as AA or BB homodimers or as an AB heterodimer.
Bioactivity
The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by Balb-c 3T3 cells is < 1 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 1 x 10^6 units/mg
