That amount of enzyme that will catalyze the production of 1 mg of purpurogallin from pyrogallol in 20 seconds at 20°C and pH 6.0. One unit as described above is approximately equivalent to 1 guaiacol as unit at 25°C and pH 7.0 (guaiacol as donor); ; 14 IUB units at 25°C and Ph 6.0 (o dianisidine as donor); 4 ABTS units at 25°C and pH 5.0 (ABTS as donor); 24- aminoantipyrine units at 25°C and pH 7.0 (4-aminoantipyrine as donor).
