Stability Test: The thermal stability is described by the loss rate of the targetprotein. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37 degree C for 48h, and no obvious degradation andprecipitation were observed. The loss of this protein is less than 5% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a member of the multicopper oxidase protein family. The encoded protein is involved in the transport of dietary iron from epithelial cells of the intestinal lumen into the circulatory system, and may be involved in copper transport and homeostasis. In mouse, defects in this gene can lead to severe microcytic anemia. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2013]
Uniprot Description
HEPH: May function as a ferroxidase for ferrous (II) to ferric ion (III) conversion and may be involved in copper transport and homeostasis. Implicated in iron homeostasis and may mediate iron efflux associated to ferroportin 1. Belongs to the multicopper oxidase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; EC 1.-.-.-; Oxidoreductase
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: Xq11-q12
Cellular Component: perinuclear region of cytoplasm; basolateral plasma membrane; integral to membrane; plasma membrane; intracellular
Molecular Function: ferroxidase activity; copper ion binding; ferrous iron binding

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Hephaestin, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
