Principle of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Guinea pig T antibody. T present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Guinea pig T Antibody is added and binds to T in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated T antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Guinea pig T. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

The enzyme encoded by this gene catalyzes the first 2 steps, and at least 1 subsequent step, in the conversion of tyrosine to melanin. The enzyme has both tyrosine hydroxylase and dopa oxidase catalytic activities, and requires copper for function. Mutations in this gene result in oculocutaneous albinism, and nonpathologic polymorphisms result in skin pigmentation variation. The human genome contains a pseudogene similar to the 3' half of this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]

Belongs to the tyrosinase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
