NCBI Description

This gene encodes a subunit of the centrosome, the main microtubule-organizing center of the cell. The encoded protein associates with another centrosomal protein, CEP152, to regulate mother-centriole-dependent centriole duplication in dividing cells. Disruption of a similar gene in human has been associated with primary microcephaly (MCPH). Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]

Uniprot Description

CEP63: Required for normal spindle assembly. Maintains centrosome numbers through centrosomal recruitment of CEP152. Also recruits CDK1 to centrosomes. Plays a role in DNA damage response. Following DNA damage, such as double-strand breaks (DSBs), is removed from centrosomes; this leads to the inactivation of spindle assembly and delay in mitotic progression. Defects in CEP63 are the cause of Seckel syndrome type 6 (SCKL6). A rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by proportionate dwarfism of prenatal onset associated with low birth weight, growth retardation, severe microcephaly with a bird-headed like appearance, and mental retardation. Belongs to the CEP63 family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The Guinea Pig Cep63 cep63 (Catalog #AAA7202907) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA7202907 ELISA Kit recognizes Guinea Pig Cep63. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Centrosomal protein of 63 kDa (CEP63), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
