NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase family. The encoded protein is a beta-6-N-acetylglucosamine-transferase that catalyzes the formation of core 2 and core 4 O-glycans on mucin-type glycoproteins.[provided by RefSeq, Apr 2009]

Uniprot Description

GCNT3: Glycosyltransferase that can synthesize all known mucin beta 6 N-acetylglucosaminides. Mediates core 2 and core 4 O-glycan branching, 2 important steps in mucin-type biosynthesis. Has also I-branching enzyme activity by converting linear into branched poly-N-acetyllactosaminoglycans, leading to introduce the blood group I antigen during embryonic development. Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 14 family.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; EC 2.4.1.150; EC 2.4.1.102; Transferase; Glycan Metabolism - O-glycan biosynthesis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 15q21.3

Cellular Component: Golgi membrane; integral to membrane; membrane

Molecular Function: acetylgalactosaminyl-O-glycosyl-glycoprotein beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase activity; beta-1,3-galactosyl-O-glycosyl-glycoprotein beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase activity; N-acetyllactosaminide beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase activity

Biological Process: carbohydrate metabolic process; immunoglobulin production in mucosal tissue; intestinal absorption; O-glycan processing; protein amino acid O-linked glycosylation; tissue morphogenesis

Product Notes

The GCNT3 gcnt3 (Catalog #AAA428443) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The C2GnT-M Immunizing Peptide reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat, Dog and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: C-NKFDPKVD DNALQ. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "C2GnT-M, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
