Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for EPGN has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any EPGN present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for EPGN is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of EPGN bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the epidermal growth factor family. Members of this family are ligands for the epidermal growth factor receptor and play a role in cell survival, proliferation and migration. This protein has been reported to have high mitogenic activity but low affinity for its receptor. Expression of this transcript and protein have been reported in cancer specimens of the breast, bladder, and prostate. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2012]

Uniprot Description

Epigen: Promotes the growth of epithelial cells. May stimulate the phosphorylation of EGFR and mitogen-activated protein kinases. 7 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Ligand, receptor tyrosine kinase; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q13.3

Cellular Component: extracellular space; integral to plasma membrane

Molecular Function: growth factor activity; epidermal growth factor receptor binding

Biological Process: positive regulation of MAP kinase activity; positive regulation of epidermal growth factor receptor activity; positive regulation of mitosis; activation of MAPK activity; positive regulation of cell proliferation; MAPKKK cascade; angiogenesis; positive regulation of epithelial cell proliferation

Product Notes

The Human EPGN epgn (Catalog #AAA902262) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA902262 ELISA Kit recognizes Human EPGN. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "epithelial mitogen homolog (mouse), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
