Intended Uses: CD138 FITC and CD138 PE are intended for research use in the identification of cells expressing CD138 antigen, using a flow cytometer!!Background/Introduction: CD138 recognizes Syndecan-1, a member of the family of transmembrane heparan sulphate proteoglycans expressed on the surface of mature plasma cells and some epithelial cells where it mediates cellular adhesion and facilitates basic Fibroblast Growth Factor (bFGF) action by permitting dimerization of the bFGF signal transmitters. CD138 antigen is expressed during normal B-Lymphocyte differentiation on pre-B cells and plasma cells, but not in peripheral blood, bone marrow or tonsil cells. CD138 specifically identifies human plasma cells. It strongly reacts with all multiple myeloma cell lines with malignant plasma cells, on Reed-Sternberg cells of classical Hodgkin's disease (HD) and on tumor cells of primary effusion lymphoma (PEL). CD138 constitutes a suitable marker for human plasmocyte identification among hematopoietic cells and for identificatijon of hematological malignancies. The clone B-A38 is derived from the cell fusion between mouse X63/AG.8653 myeloma cells and spleen cells from BALB/c mice immunized with the cell line U266. The clone B-A38 secretes mouse IgG1 kappa monoclonal antibody directed against CD138.
