Related Product Information for IL-36 beta (IL-1F8) active protein
The IL-1 family is comprised of 11 structurally related ligands, including recently re-named IL-36alpha (IL-1F6), beta (IL-1F8) and gamma (IL-1F9). IL-36beta is highly expressed in psoriatic plaques, and at lower levels in various other tissues. IL-36beta signals through the IL-1Rrp2 (IL-1R6) receptor, which is primarily expressed on certain dendritic cells. The interaction of the IL-1Rrp2 receptor with IL-36 ligands induces dendritic cell maturation and activation. IL-36beta also functions as an agonist of NF-kappaB, and stimulates the production of pro-inflammatory proteins, including IL-6, IL-8, BD-2, and BD-3. Recombinant human IL-36beta is a 17.3 kDa protein containing 154 amino acid residues.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. Protein structure modeling indicated that this cytokine may contain a 12-stranded beta-trefoil structure that is conserved between IL1A (IL-A alpha) and IL1B (IL-1 beta). This gene and eight other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Stimulates production of interleukin-6 and interleukin-8 in synovial fibrobasts, articular chondrocytes and mature adipocytes. Induces expression of a number of antimicrobial peptides including beta-defensins 4 and 103 as well as a number of matrix metalloproteases. Ref.8 Ref.9 Ref.10

Subcellular location: Secreted

Potential.

Tissue specificity: Expression at low levels in tonsil, bone marrow, heart, placenta, lung, testis and colon but not in any hematopoietic cell lines. Not detected in adipose tissue. Expressed at higher levels in psoriatic plaques than in symptomless psoriatic skin or healthy control skin. Increased levels are not detected in inflamed joint tissue. Ref.9 Ref.10

Induction: By proinflammatory cytokines IL1A, IL1B and TNF in synovial fibroblasts. By IL1A and TNF in keratinocytes. Constitutive in articular chondrocytes. Ref.8

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the IL-1 family.

Product Notes

The IL-36 beta (IL-1F8) il36b (Catalog #AAA691649) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Human IL-36 beta (IL-1F8) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: MREAAPKSYA IRDSRQMVWV LSGNSLIAAP LSRSIKPVTL HLIACR DTEF SDKEKGNMVY LGIKGKDLCL FCAEIQGKPT LQLKEKNIMD L YVEKKAQKP FLFFHNKEGS TSVFQSVSYP GWFIATSTTS GQPIFLT KER GITNNTNFYL DSVE. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IL-36 beta (IL-1F8), Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
