Related Product Information for GDF6 active protein
Background: BMPs (bone morphogenetic proteins) belong to the TGF-b superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. These ligands mediate numerous physiological processes. BMPs initiate, promote and maintain cartilage and bone development, growth, remodeling and repair, in both prenatal development and postnatal growth of eye, heart, kidney, skin, and other tissues. Expression of BMP-13 has been found in the hypertrophic chondrocytes of ossifying long bone centers. MyBioSource's recombinant human BMP-13/CDMP-2 is a 27 kDa homodimeric disulfide-linked protein consisting of two 120 amino acids polypeptide chains.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family and the TGF-beta superfamily of secreted signaling molecules. It is required for normal formation of some bones and joints in the limbs, skull, and axial skeleton. Mutations in this gene result in colobomata, which are congenital abnormalities in ocular development, and in Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS), which is a congenital disorder of spinal segmentation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

GDF6: Required for normal formation of bones and joints in the limbs, skull, and axial skeleton. Plays a key role in establishing boundaries between skeletal elements during development. Defects in GDF6 are the cause of Klippel-Feil syndrome type 1 (KFS1). A skeletal disorder characterized by congenital fusion of cervical vertebrae. It is due to a failure in the normal segmentation of vertebrae during the early weeks of fetal development. The clinical triad consists of short neck, low posterior hairline, and limited neck movement. Deafness is a well- known feature of KFS and may be of sensorineural, conductive, or mixed type. A chromosomal aberration involving GDF6 has been found in a patient with Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS). Paracentric inv(8)(q22;2q23.3). Defects in GDF6 are the cause of microphthalmia isolated type 4 (MCOP4). A disorder of eye formation, ranging from small size of a single eye to complete bilateral absence of ocular tissues. Ocular abnormalities like opacities of the cornea and lens, scaring of the retina and choroid, cataract and other abnormalities like cataract may also be present. Belongs to the TGF-beta family.

Product Notes

The GDF6 gdf6 (Catalog #AAA844170) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's BMP-13 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, SDS-PAGE; HPLC. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GDF6 gdf6 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BMP-13, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
