Related Product Information for CALCA active protein
Background: Procalcitonin is a peptide hormone mainly produced by the C cells of the thyroid and certain endocrine cells of the lung. Under normal expression conditions, procalcitonin is immediately cleaved into three specific fragments, an N terminal residue, calcitonin and katacalcin. Levels of unprocessed Procalcitonin rise significantly after bacterial infection, trauma or shock. Recombinant Human Procalcitonin produced in E.coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 116 amino acids with a molecular weight of 12,796 Daltons.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the peptide hormones calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide and katacalcin by tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing of the gene transcripts and cleavage of inactive precursor proteins. Calcitonin is involved in calcium regulation and acts to regulate phosphorus metabolism. Calcitonin gene-related peptide functions as a vasodilator and as an antimicrobial peptide while katacalcin is a calcium-lowering peptide. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2014]

Uniprot Description

CALCA: Calcitonin causes a rapid but short-lived drop in the level of calcium and phosphate in blood by promoting the incorporation of those ions in the bones. Belongs to the calcitonin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The CALCA calca (Catalog #AAA844774) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Procalcitonin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, SDS-PAGE; HPLC. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CALCA calca for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Procalcitonin, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
