NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a T cell-derived cytokine that shares sequence similarity with IL17. This cytokine was reported to stimulate the release of TNF alpha (TNF) and IL1 beta (IL1B) from a monocytic cell line. Immunohistochemical analysis of several nerve tissues indicated that this cytokine is primarily localized to neuronal cell bodies. Alternative splicing results in multiple splice variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2015]

Uniprot Description

IL17B: Stimulates the release of tumor necrosis factor alpha and IL-1-beta from the monocytic cell line THP-1. Belongs to the IL-17 family.

Protein type: Cytokine; Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5q32

Biological Process: cell-cell signaling; immune response

The amino acid sequence is listed below: M+QPRSPKSK R KGQGRPGPLA PGPHQVPLDL VSRMKPYARM EEYERNIEEM VAQLRNSSEL AQRKCEVNLQ LWMSNKRSLS PWGYSINHDP SRIPVDLPEA RCLCLGCVNP FTMQEDRSMV SVPVFSQVPV RRRLCPPPPR TGPCRQRAVM ETIAVGCTCI F. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Interleukin-17B protein (IL17B), Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
