Biological Activity
The ED50 of Rat IL-1beta as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of murine D10S cells is 0.1ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 1x10e7 units/mg.
Reconstitution
Lyophilized rat IL-1beta is soluble in water and most aqueous buffers. The lyophilized protein can be reconstituted in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0mg/ml. This solution can be diluted into other buffered solutions or stored at- 20 degree C for future use.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute by adding sterile ddH2O, protein carrier. Aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted protein is stable for 3 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Function: Produced by activated macrophages, IL-1 stimulates thymocyte proliferation by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity. IL-1 proteins are involved in the inflammatory response, being identified as endogenous pyrogens, and are reported to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells.
