Related Product Information for D162 blocking peptide
Caspase-6 (Mch2) is one of the major executioner caspases functioning in cellular apoptotic processes. Upon apoptotic stimulation, initiator caspases such as caspase-9 are cleaved and activated. The activated upstream caspases further process downstream executioner caspases, such as caspase-3 and caspase-6, by cleaving them into large and small subunits, thereby initiating a caspase cascade leading to apoptosis. One of the major targets for caspase-6 is the membrane associated protein lamin A. The cleavage of this protein causes cell membrane malfunction, membrane blebbing and eventual cell death.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the cysteine proteases that plays important roles in regulating apoptosis and neurodegeneration. The encoded protein is involved in the transmission of pain and axonal degeneration. Genetic deletion of this gene in mice results in the delay of axon pruning and protects from axon degeneration. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2015]

Uniprot Description

CASP6: Involved in the activation cascade of caspases responsible for apoptosis execution. Cleaves poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase in vitro, as well as lamins. Overexpression promotes programmed cell death. Heterotetramer that consists of two anti-parallel arranged heterodimers, each one formed by a 18 kDa (p18) and a 11 kDa (p11) subunit. Interacts with BIRC6/bruce. Activation is suppressed by phosphorylation at Ser-257. Belongs to the peptidase C14A family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Apoptosis; Protease; EC 3.4.22.59

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; cytoplasm; cytosol; nucleus

Molecular Function: peptidase activity; identical protein binding; protein binding; hydrolase activity; endopeptidase activity; cysteine-type peptidase activity

Product Notes

The D162 casp6 (Catalog #AAA3008369) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Caspase-6 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Blocking. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the D162 casp6 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Caspase-6, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
