The deduced 1,193-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of about 140 kD. It contains an N-terminal F-box domain, followed by 3 nuclear export signals (NES) and 3 C-terminal nuclear localization signals. Moka also has a highly acidic stretch of about 100 amino acids, an asp-rich stretch, and a ser-rich stretch. In situ hybridization found Moka and Klf7 coexpressed in the developing mouse nervous system and in adult testis.

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate FBXO38 in samples. An antibody specific for FBXO38 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyFBXO38 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for FBXO38 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of FBXO38 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a large protein that contains an F-box domain and may participate in protein ubiquitination. The encoded protein is a transcriptional co-activator of Krueppel-like factor 7 (Klf7). A heterozygous mutation in this gene was found in individuals with autosomal dominant distal hereditary motor neuronopathy type IID. There is a pseudogene for this gene on chromosome 4.
