Biological Significance
Immunoglobulin Y (abbreviated as IgY) is a type of immunoglobulin which is the major antibody in bird, reptile, and lungfish blood. It is also found in high concentrations in chicken egg yolk. As with the other immunoglobulins, IgY is a class of proteins which are formed by the immune system in reaction to certain foreign substances, and specifically recognize them. IgY is often mislabelled as Immunoglobulin G (IgG) in older literature, and sometimes even in commercial product catalogues, due to its functional similarity to mammalian IgG and Immunoglobulin E (IgE). However, this older nomenclature is obsolete, since IgY differs both structurally and functionally from mammalian IgG, and does not cross-react with antibodies raised against mammalian IgG.
Preparation and Storage
Ships ambient or refrigerated. Upon receipt store at 4 degree C prior to reconstitution. For longer storage, aliquot and store at -20 degree C after reconstituted.

Product Notes

The IgY (Catalog #AAA537309) is an Immunoglobulin produced from Chicken and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Chicken IgY can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, User optimized. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the IgY for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Chicken IgY, Immunoglobulin" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
