Scientific Background: CDKL1 or cyclin-dependent kinase-like 1 is a member of a large family of CDC2-related serine/threonine protein kinases. CDKL1, which is also known as p42 KKIALRE, accumulates primarily in the nucleus and is known to regulate important transitions in the eukaryotic cell cycle (1). CDKL1 and the related CDC2 protein kinase have a similar pattern of mRNA expression except in the reproductive organs. CDKL1 is expressed in several human tissues, with the highest expression in kidney and ovary (2). CDKL1 is overexpressed in breast cancer patients and has a positive detection efficiency of 77%. Inhibiting CDKL1 function with shRNA in MCF-7 cells shows increased accumulation of the cells at the G2/M phase and increased sensitivity to cell cycle chemotherapeutic drugs.

NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene product is a member of a large family of CDC2-related serine/threonine protein kinases. It accumulates primarily in the nucleus. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2013]
Uniprot Description
Catalytic activity: ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.
Subcellular location: Cytoplasm. Nucleus Ref.6.
Tissue specificity: Highly expressed in kidney, and to a lower extent in ovary. Ref.6
Domain: The [NKR]KIAxRE motif seems to be a cyclin-binding region.
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. CMGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. CDC2/CDKX subfamily.Contains 1 protein kinase domain.
Sequence caution: The sequence AAI04978.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally shortened. The sequence AAS00095.1 differs from that shown. Product Notes
The CDKL1 cdkl1 (Catalog #AAA515414) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Sf9 insect cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The tag for this protein is GST tag!!Expression System||Sf9 insect cells using baculovirus!!Source Note||Recombinant full-length human CDKL1 was expressed by baculovirus in Sf9 insect cells. AAA Biotech's CDKL1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CDKL1 cdkl1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CDKL1, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
