F-actin-capping protein subunit beta (Capzb) Recombinant Protein | Capzb recombinant protein
Recombinant Mouse F-actin-capping protein subunit beta (Capzb)
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes the beta subunit of a highly conserved filamentous actin capping protein that binds the barbed end of filamentous actin to stabilize it and terminate elongation. Interaction of this protein with the barbed end of the actin filament occurs through binding of the amphipathic helix at the C-terminus to the hydrophobic cleft on the actin molecule. This gene is required for a variety of dynamic actin-mediated processes including organization of lamellipodia and filopodia, growth cone morphology and neurite outgrowth in hippocampal neurons, and asymmetric spindle migration and polar body extrusion during oocyte maturation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2015]
Uniprot Description
F-actin-capping proteins bind in a Ca2+-independent manner to the fast growing ends of actin filaments (barbed end) thereby blocking the exchange of subunits at these ends. Unlike other capping proteins (such as gelsolin and severin), these proteins do not sever actin filaments. Isoform 3 may play a role in spermatogenesis. Alternatively, may play a role in later maturation steps such as capacitation and fertilization which involve changes of membrane domains. Plays a role in the regulation of cell morphology and cytoskeletal organization ().
