Testing Data
(Image: Mixed neuron/glia cultures stained with MAP-2 (green) and also rabbit antibody of neurofilament NF-H (red). Since the NF-H protein is largely expressed in neuronal axons, while the MAP2 is only found in neuronal dendrites and perikarya, there is little overlap between these two staining patterns. DNA stain shows nuclei of neurons and non-neuronal cells (blue).Protocol on data-sheet.)
Testing Data
(Image: Western blot of whole rat brain lysate probed with antibody to MAP2. Note that the strong single band running at about 280Kda corresponds to MAP2. Protocol on data-sheet.)
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
Uniprot Description
MAP2: a member of the microtubule-associated protein (MAP) family. Its exact function is unknown but MAPs appear to stabilize the microtubules against depolymerization. They also seem to have a stiffening effect on microtubules. Expressed at high levels in neural tissue and the prostate. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported.
Protein type: Cytoskeletal; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q34-q35
Cellular Component: cytoplasm; microtubule associated complex; neuron projection; nucleolus
Molecular Function: microtubule binding; protein binding
Biological Process: central nervous system neuron development; dendrite morphogenesis; microtubule cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis; neurite development

Product Notes
The MAP2 map2 (Catalog #AAA555043) is an Antibody and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MAP2, Monoclonal Antibody, Mouse reacts with Bovine, Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MAP2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunofluorescence (IF), Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MAP2 map2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MAP2, Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
