Principle of the Assay: BMP1 ELISA kit applies the competitive enzyme immunoassay technique utilizing a monoclonal anti-BMP1 antibody and an BMP1-HRP conjugate. The assay sample and buffer are incubated together with BMP1-HRP conjugate in pre-coated plate for one hour. After the incubation period, the wells are decanted and washed five times. The wells are then incubated with a substrate for HRP enzyme. The product of the enzyme-substrate reaction forms a blue colored complex. Finally, a stop solution is added to stop the reaction, which will then turn the solution yellow. The intensity of color is measured spectrophotometrically at 450nm in a microplate reader. The intensity of the color is inversely proportional to the BMP1 concentration since BMP1 from samples and BMP1-HRP conjugate compete for the anti-BMP1 antibody binding site. Since the number of sites is limited, as more sites are occupied by BMP1 from the sample, fewer sites are left to bind BMP1-HRP conjugate. A standard curve is plotted relating the intensity of the color (O.D.) to the concentration of standards. The BMP1 concentration in each sample is interpolated from this standard curve.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein that is capable of inducing formation of cartilage in vivo. Although other bone morphogenetic proteins are members of the TGF-beta superfamily, this gene encodes a protein that is not closely related to other known growth factors. This gene is expressed as alternatively spliced variants that share an N-terminal protease domain but differ in their C-terminal region. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008]

Uniprot Description

BMP1: Cleaves the C-terminal propeptides of procollagen I, II and III. Induces cartilage and bone formation. May participate in dorsoventral patterning during early development by cleaving chordin (CHRD). Defects in BMP1 are a cause of autosomal recessive osteogenesis imperfecta (AR-OI). A connective tissue disorder characterized by bone fragility, progressively deforming bones, bowing of limbs due to multiple fractures, very short stature, a triangular face, severe scoliosis, and grayish sclera. AR-OI due to BMP1 mutations belongs to the group of osteogenesis imperfecta type III in the Sillence classification. Belongs to the peptidase M12A family. 7 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The Sheep BMP1 bmp1 (Catalog #AAA736613) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA736613 ELISA Kit recognizes Sheep BMP1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Bone Morphogenetic Protein 1, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
