NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a mitochondrial phosphate-activated glutaminase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glutamine to stoichiometric amounts of glutamate and ammonia. Originally thought to be liver-specific, this protein has been found in other tissues as well. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]

Uniprot Description

GLS2: Plays an important role in the regulation of glutamine catabolism. Promotes mitochondrial respiration and increases ATP generation in cells by catalyzing the synthesis of glutamate and alpha-ketoglutarate. Increases cellular anti-oxidant function via NADH and glutathione production. May play a role in preventing tumor proliferation. Belongs to the glutaminase family.

Protein type: Amino Acid Metabolism - arginine and proline; Hydrolase; EC 3.5.1.2; Mitochondrial; Amino Acid Metabolism - alanine, aspartate and glutamate; Other Amino Acids Metabolism - D-Glutamine and D-glutamate; Energy Metabolism - nitrogen

Product Notes

The GLS2 gls2 (Catalog #AAA151918) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's GLS2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Blocking (BL). GLS2 peptide is used for blocking the activity of GLS2 antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GLS2 gls2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GLS2, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
