2,4-Pyridinedicarboxylic Acid is an inhibitor of histone lysine demethylases and 2-oxoglutarate oxygenases. It structurally mimics 2-oxoglutarate (2-OG) and chelates zinc, thus inhibiting a range of enzymes. As a 2-OG mimic it also inhibits prolyl, collagen and lysyl hydroxylases. It modulates hypoxia-inducible factor turnover, collagen synthesis and plant cell wall formation. It also inhibits zinc-dependent enzymes, like metallo-beta-lactamase. It inhibits several Jumonji domain-containing lysine demethylases such as JMJD2A (KDM4A) and KDM4C. It reduced neointimal hyperplasia and inflammation in the carotid arteries of Diabetic Rats.
