Catalytic activity: Ditrans,octacis-undecaprenyl diphosphate + H2O = ditrans,octacis-undecaprenyl phosphate + phosphate. Ref.6
Subcellular location: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein Ref.6.
Induction: Expression is sigma M, sigma X and sigma I-dependent. Induced by vancomycin and bacitracin, via sigma M. Expression is maximal during early exponential phase and decreases during stationary phase. Ref.3 Ref.5 Ref.7
Disruption phenotype: Disruption results in a marked decrease of resistance to bacitracin. Ref.5
Miscellaneous: Bacitracin is thought to be involved in the inhibition of peptidoglycan synthesis by sequestering undecaprenyl diphosphate, thereby reducing the pool of lipid carrier available.
