NCBI Description

Energy taxis includes aerotaxis, redox taxis and glycerol taxis. aer is up-regulated by FlhCD and CRP. aer mutants are down for genes involved in anaerobic respiration and the Entner-Doudoroff pathway. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG12955]. The flavoprotein Aer is one of two sensory proteins which mediate the aerotactic response in Escherichia coli. [More information is available at EcoCyc: G7595].

Uniprot Description

Function: Signal transducer for aerotaxis. The aerotactic response is the accumulation of cells around air bubbles. The nature of the sensory stimulus detected by this protein is the proton motive force or cellular redox state. It uses a FAD prosthetic group as a redox sensor to monitor oxygen levels. Ref.3 Ref.4

Subcellular location: Cell inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.

Sequence similarities: Contains 1 methyl-accepting transducer domain.Contains 1 PAC (PAS-associated C-terminal) domain.Contains 1 PAS (PER-ARNT-SIM) domain.

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Aerotaxis receptor (aer), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
