Ordering
For Research Use Only!
Purity/Purification
Highly Purified
95% (RP-HPLC, Anion exchange FPLC, SDS-PAGE).
Form/Format
Supplied as a lyophilized powder from 0.0045mM NaHCO3, pH 4.0. Reconstitution in sterile distilled water with 0.1% HSA or BSA for long term storage to a concentration 100ug/ml.
Applicable Applications for Lep active protein
Western Blot (WB)
Biological Activity
Determined by in vivo assay using the ob/ob mouse obesity model and NZO. Both strains of mice were treated via intraperitoneal injection once daily at a dosage of 5ug Leptin (L1670-16)/g of body weight for 7 days. Significant effects on body weight, food consumption and plasma glucose levels were observed compared to saline-treated controls.
Endotoxin Level
0.1ng/ug (1EU/ug)
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4 degree C for short-term only. Reconstitute to nominal volume by adding sterile dH2O with 0.1% HSA or BSA and store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Related Product Information for Lep active protein
Leptin (Anti-Obesity Protein) is the protein product of the ob (obese) gene in mice. It seems to be involved in appetite control. The ob gene is expressed in adipose tissue and is thought to regulate the body's fat stores. Mice with the ob/ob genotype also develop a form of diabetes similar to type II (non-insulin dependent) diabetes.

Recombinant Rat Leptin is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 147 amino acid residues with a molecular weight of 16.2kD.

NCBI Description

involved in regulation of body weight, and may have a role in angiogenesis [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Function: May function as part of a signaling pathway that acts to regulate the size of the body fat depot. An increase in the level of Lep may act directly or indirectly on the CNS to inhibit food intake and/or regulate energy expenditure as part of a homeostatic mechanism to maintain constancy of the adipose mass.

Subcellular location: Secreted

Probable.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the leptin family.

Product Notes

The Lep lep (Catalog #AAA635956) is an Active Protein and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Leptin, Rat can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Lep lep for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Leptin, Rat, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
