Related Product Information for HS2ST1 active protein
Heparan sulfate is a highly sulfated polysaccharide found on the cell surface and within the extracellular matrix. Typically, it is covalently attached to the protein core of proteoglycans, such as syndecans and glypicans. Heparin, on the other hand, can be considered as a highly sulfated version of heparan sulfate that is predominantly found in mast cells. Both heparin and heparan sulfate contain disaccharide repeats of uronic acid and Nacetylglucosamine and are modified by the same sulfotransferases (1, 2). The uronic acid residues are either glucuronic acid or iduronic acid and maybe sulfated at the 2O position by heparan sulfate 2O sulfotransferase 1 (HS2ST1) (3, 4). HS2ST1 physically interacts in the Golgi apparatus with glucuronyl c5epimerase (5), which catalyzes the conversion of glucuronic acid to iduronic acid (6). As a consequence, 2O

NCBI Description

Heparan sulfate biosynthetic enzymes are key components in generating a myriad of distinct heparan sulfate fine structures that carry out multiple biologic activities. This gene encodes a member of the heparan sulfate biosynthetic enzyme family that transfers sulfate to the 2 position of the iduronic acid residue of heparan sulfate. The disruption of this gene resulted in no kidney formation in knockout embryonic mice, indicating that the absence of this enzyme may interfere with the signaling required for kidney formation. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different proteins have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2008]

Uniprot Description

HS2ST1: Catalyzes the transfer of sulfate to the C2-position of selected hexuronic acid residues within the maturing heparan sulfate (HS). 2-O-sulfation within HS, particularly of iduronate residues, is essential for HS to participate in a variety of high- affinity ligand-binding interactions and signaling processes. Mediates 2-O-sulfation of both L-iduronyl and D-glucuronyl residues. Belongs to the sulfotransferase 3 family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The HS2ST1 hs2st1 (Catalog #AAA636651) is an Active Protein and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Heparan Sulfate 2-O-sulfotransferase 1 Human,, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
