Applicable Applications for SAA1 active protein
Functional Assays (FN)
Reconstitution
Reconstitute with 0.5ml distilled water. Care should be taken during reconstitution as the protein may appear as a film at the bottom of the vial. MyBioSource recommends that the vial is gently mixed after reconstitution. For extended storage, the addition of 0.1% BSA is recommended.
Preparation
Buffer Solution
5mM Tris, pH7.6
Activity
Determined by its ability to chemoattract human monocytes using a range of 10.0-10.0 ng/ml.
Target Species
Human
Preparation and Storage
Prior to reconstitution store at 4 degree C. After reconstitution store at -20 degree C. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life: 3 months from date of reconstitution.
Related Product Information for SAA1 active protein
Serum Amyloid A (apo-SAA) is an acute phase response protein and injury specific apolipoprotein, synthesized primarily in the liver, which is found in trace amounts in association with high density lipoproteins (HDL) in human serum, but increases dramatically during an acute response to inflammation, infection, trauma, and malignant neoplasia, to become the most abundant HDL apolipoprotein. The acute phase isoforms of apo-SAA are encoded by the genes SAA1 (Apo-SAA1) and SAA2 (Apo-SAA2), and both include allelic variants.

Protein Family

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the serum amyloid A family of apolipoproteins. The encoded protein is a major acute phase protein that is highly expressed in response to inflammation and tissue injury. This protein also plays an important role in HDL metabolism and cholesterol homeostasis. High levels of this protein are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases including atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer's disease and Crohn's disease. This protein may also be a potential biomarker for certain tumors. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode the same protein. A pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome 11.[provided by RefSeq, Jun 2012]

Uniprot Description

SAA1: Major acute phase reactant. Apolipoprotein of the HDL complex. Reactive, secondary amyloidosis is characterized by the extracellular accumulation in various tissues of the SAA1 protein. These deposits are highly insoluble and resistant to proteolysis; they disrupt tissue structure and compromise function. Elevated serum SAA1 protein levels may be associated with lung cancer. Belongs to the SAA family.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11p15.1

Cellular Component: extracellular region

Molecular Function: heparin binding; G-protein-coupled receptor binding

Biological Process: positive regulation of interleukin-1 secretion; neutrophil chemotaxis; platelet activation; receptor-mediated endocytosis; elevation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration; regulation of protein secretion; positive regulation of cell adhesion; negative regulation of inflammatory response; acute-phase response; innate immune response; lymphocyte chemotaxis; macrophage chemotaxis; positive regulation of cytokine secretion

Product Notes

The SAA1 (Catalog #AAA232509) is an Active Protein and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's apo-SERUM AMYLOID A1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Functional Assays (FN). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SAA1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "apo-SERUM AMYLOID A1, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
