Related Product Information for Acox1 recombinant protein
This protein is the first enzyme of the fatty acid beta-oxidation pathway, which catalyzes the desaturation of acyl-CoAs to 2-trans-enoyl-CoAs. It donates electrons directly to molecular oxygen, thereby producing hydrogen peroxide. Defects in this gene result in pseudoneonatal adrenoleukodystrophy, a disease that is characterized by accumulation of very long chain fatty acids. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the acyl-coenzyme A oxidase family. The encoded protein is localized to peroxisomes and is the first enzyme of the fatty acid beta-oxidation pathway, which catalyzes the desaturation of acyl-coenzyme A to 2-trans-enoyl-coenzyme A. Disruption of this gene results in microvesicular steatohepatitis, spontaneous peroxisome proliferation, and the eventual development of hepatocellular carcinomas. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2012]

Uniprot Description

Catalyzes the desaturation of acyl-CoAs to 2-trans-enoyl-CoAs. Isoform 1 shows highest activity against medium-chain fatty acyl-CoAs and activity decreases with increasing chain length. Isoform 2 is active against a much broader range of substrates and shows activity towards very long-chain acyl-CoAs ().

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Peroxisomal acyl-coenzyme A oxidase 1 (Acox1), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
