Rabbit MafA Polyclonal Antibody | anti-MAFA antibody
MafA Antibody
Predicted Reactivity: Bovine(88%), Dog(88%), Chicken(100%)
Predicted Reactivity: Bovine(88%), Dog(88%), Chicken(100%)
ELISA(peptide): 1:20,000-1:40,000
Post Translational Modifications: Ubiquitinated, leading to its degradation by the proteasome. Phosphorylated at tyrosines.
Subcellular Location: Nucleus.
Tissue Specificity: Expressed in the islets of Langerhans (at protein level).
Subunit Structure: Forms homodimers or heterodimers (PubMed:12011435, PubMed:23148532). Monomers and dimers are able to bind DNA, but the off-rate is faster for monomers (PubMed:23148532). Interacts with NEUROD1 and PDX1 (By similarity). May interact with MAFB, FOS, JUN and PCAF (By similarity).
Similarity: Belongs to the bZIP family. Maf subfamily.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
Predicted Molecular Weight: (Calculated)37kDa.
NCBI Description
MAFA is a transcription factor that binds RIPE3b, a conserved enhancer element that regulates pancreatic beta cell-specific expression of the insulin gene (INS; MIM 176730) (Olbrot et al., 2002 [PubMed 12011435]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]
Uniprot Description
MAFA: Acts as a transcriptional factor. Specifically binds the insulin enhancer element RIPE3b and activates insulin gene expression. Cooperates synergistically with NEUROD1 and PDX1. Phosphorylation by GSK3 increases its transcriptional activity and is required for its oncogenic activity. Involved either as an oncogene or as a tumor suppressor, depending on the cell context. Binds DNA as a homodimer (Probable). Interacts with NEUROD1, PCAF and PDX1. Up-regulated by glucose. Belongs to the bZIP family. Maf subfamily.
Protein type: Transcription factor; DNA-binding; Tumor suppressor; Oncoprotein
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8q24.3
Cellular Component: nucleus
Molecular Function: DNA binding; protein heterodimerization activity; protein homodimerization activity; transcription factor activity
Biological Process: insulin secretion; nitric oxide mediated signal transduction; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; response to glucose stimulus; transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter

Product Notes
The MAFA mafa (Catalog #AAA9612188) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MafA Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat Predicted Reactivity: Bovine(88%), Dog(88%), Chicken(100%) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MafA can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA). WB: 1:500-1:2000 ELISA(peptide): 1:20,000-1:40,000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MAFA mafa for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MafA, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
