MKL1 blocking peptide

MKL1 Antibody (Center) Blocking Peptide

Gene Names
MKL1; MAL; BSAC; MRTF-A
Synonyms
MKL1; MKL1 Antibody (Center) Blocking Peptide; MKL/myocardin-like protein 1; Megakaryoblastic leukemia 1 protein; Megakaryocytic acute leukemia protein; Myocardin-related transcription factor A; MRTF-A; KIAA1438; MAL; MKL1 blocking peptide
Ordering
Form/Format
Synthetic peptide was lyophilized with 100% acetonitrile and is supplied as a powder. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml DI water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml.
Sequence Length
931
Cellular Location
Nucleus. Cytoplasm Note: Binding to globular actin is required to maintain cytoplasmic localization. Nuclear localization is regulated by MICAL2, which mediates depolymerization of nuclear globular actin, promoting retention of MKL1 in the nucleus and subsequent formation of an active complex with SRF (PubMed:24440334)
Tissue Location
Ubiquitously expressed, has been detected in lung, placenta, small intestine, liver, kidney, spleen, thymus, colon, muscle, heart and brain
Preparation and Storage
Maintain refrigerated at 2-8 degree C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20 degree C.
Related Product Information for MKL1 blocking peptide
Transcriptional coactivator of serum response factor (SRF) with the potential to modulate SRF target genes. Suppresses TNF-induced cell death by inhibiting activation of caspases; its transcriptional activity is indispensable for the antiapoptotic function. It may up-regulate antiapoptotic molecules, which in turn inhibit caspase activation (By similarity).

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene interacts with the transcription factor myocardin, a key regulator of smooth muscle cell differentiation. The encoded protein is predominantly nuclear and may help transduce signals from the cytoskeleton to the nucleus. This gene is involved in a specific translocation event that creates a fusion of this gene and the RNA-binding motif protein-15 gene. This translocation has been associated with acute megakaryocytic leukemia. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2013]

Uniprot Description

MKL1: Transcriptional coactivator of serum response factor (SRF) with the potential to modulate SRF target genes. Suppresses TNF-induced cell death by inhibiting activation of caspases; its transcriptional activity is indispensable for the antiapoptotic function. It may up-regulate antiapoptotic molecules, which in turn inhibit caspase activation. Forms with SCAI and SRF a nuclear ternary complex which binds the CArG consensus motif (CArG box) on DNA via SRF. Interacts with ACTB; interaction with ACTB prevents interaction with SCAI. Interacts with MKL2. Ubiquitously expressed, has been detected in lung, placenta, small intestine, liver, kidney, spleen, thymus, colon, muscle, heart and brain.

Protein type: Oncoprotein; Transcription, coactivator/corepressor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 22q13

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; nucleoplasm; nucleus

Molecular Function: actin binding; actin monomer binding; leucine zipper domain binding; protein binding; transcription coactivator activity

Product Notes

The MKL1 mkl1 (Catalog #AAA9223800) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MKL1, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
