Background: Galphai2 is a 40-41 kDa alpha-subunit of heterotrimeric protein that shares sequence homology with Galphai3 and Galphai1. All these G proteins can be ADP-ribosylated at the carboxy terminal Cys of the CAAX sequence, interfering with receptor coupling. Galphai2 is expressed widely in tissues and cell lines. Activation of PLC-beta by Galphai-coupled receptors is the result of release of Gbetag subunits from Galphai. Galphai2 regulates potassium channel activation. Mutation at Arg179 has been identified in tumors. This and the Q205L mutant inhibit adenylyl cyclase.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is an alpha subunit of guanine nucleotide binding proteins (G proteins). The encoded protein contains the guanine nucleotide binding site and is involved in the hormonal regulation of adenylate cyclase. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2013]

Uniprot Description

G-alpha i2: Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) are involved as modulators or transducers in various transmembrane signaling systems. The G(i) proteins are involved in hormonal regulation of adenylate cyclase: they inhibit the cyclase in response to beta-adrenergic stimuli. May play a role in cell division. Belongs to the G-alpha family. G(i/o/t/z) subfamily. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: G protein; G protein, heterotrimeric alpha G((i/o/t/z)); G protein, heterotrimeric

Product Notes

The Gai2 gnai2 (Catalog #AAA840740) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Gai2 Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Gai2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunoprecipitation (IP). Western blot (at 0.5-4 ug/ml) and immunoprecipitation. However, the optimal conditions should be determined individually. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Gai2 gnai2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Gai2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
