NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes a protein that phosphorylates carbohydrates such as ribulose, ribitol, and L-arabinitol. Genome-wide association studies in some populations have found an association between polymorphisms in this gene and sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, but studies of other populations have not been able to replicate this association. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2013]
Uniprot Description
FGGY: Defects in FGGY are associated with sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting upper and lower motor neurons and resulting in fatal paralysis. Sensory abnormalities are absent. Death usually occurs within 2 to 5 years. The etiology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is likely to be multifactorial, involving both genetic and environmental factors. Belongs to the FGGY kinase family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Kinase, other; EC 2.7.1.-
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p32.1
Molecular Function: kinase activity; phosphotransferase activity, alcohol group as acceptor
Biological Process: carbohydrate metabolic process; phosphorylation

Product Notes
The FGGY fggy (Catalog #AAA7135073) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The FGGY Antibody, Biotin Conjugated reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's FGGY can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FGGY fggy for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FGGY, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
