NCBI Description

This gene encodes a nephrocystin protein that interacts with calmodulin and the retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator protein. The encoded protein has a central coiled-coil region and two calmodulin-binding IQ domains. It is localized to the primary cilia of renal epithelial cells and connecting cilia of photoreceptor cells. The protein is thought to play a role in ciliary function. Defects in this gene result in Senior-Loken syndrome type 5. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009]

Uniprot Description

IQCB1: Involved in ciliogenesis. Defects in IQCB1 are the cause of Senior-Loken syndrome type 5 (SLSN5). SLSN is a renal-retinal disorder, characterized by progressive wasting of the filtering unit of the kidney (nephronophthisis), with or without medullary cystic renal disease, and progressive eye disease. Typically this disorder becomes apparent during the first year of life. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q13.33|3q21.1

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; microtubule cytoskeleton; centrosome; intercellular bridge; photoreceptor outer segment; cytosol; photoreceptor connecting cilium

Molecular Function: calmodulin binding; protein binding; enzyme binding

Biological Process: organelle organization and biogenesis; photoreceptor cell maintenance; cilium biogenesis; maintenance of organ identity

Disease: Senior-loken Syndrome 5

Product Notes

The IQCB1 iqcb1 (Catalog #AAA7122204) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The IQCB1 Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's IQCB1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), ELISA (EIA). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC: 1:100-1:300 ELISA: 1:40000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the IQCB1 iqcb1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IQCB1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
