Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for versican/PG-M/PG-350 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any versican/PG-M/PG-350 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for versican/PG-M/PG-350 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of versican/PG-M/PG-350 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the aggrecan/versican proteoglycan family. The protein encoded is a large chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan and is a major component of the extracellular matrix. This protein is involved in cell adhesion, proliferation, proliferation, migration and angiogenesis and plays a central role in tissue morphogenesis and maintenance. Mutations in this gene are the cause of Wagner syndrome type 1. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2009]
