Sigma S is a 38kDa transcription factor of E. coli RNA Polymerase
sigmaS (sigma S) is a 38kDa subunit of the E.coli RNA polymerase

Sigma transcription factor controlling a regulation of genes required for protection against external stresses. Possibly, it affects the expression of katE (catalase HPII), xthA (endonuclease III), the appABC operon and other genes by modifying the affinity of RNA polymerase for the promoters.

NCBI Description

Polyamine modulon. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10510]. rpoS encodes the alternative sigma factor S, a subunit of RNA polymerase that acts as the master regulator of the general stress response in Escherichia coli. [More information is available at EcoCyc: EG10510].

Uniprot Description

Function: Sigma factors are initiation factors that promote the attachment of RNA polymerase to specific initiation sites and are then released. This sigma factor is the master transcriptional regulator of the stationary phase and the general stress response. Controls, positively or negatively, the expression of several hundred genes, which are mainly involved in metabolism, transport, regulation and stress management.

Subunit structure: Interacts with the RNA polymerase core enzyme and RssB.

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm

Potential.

Induction: Subject to complex regulation at multiple levels (transcription, translation, regulation of activity and degradation). Transcription is induced during entry into stationary phase and in response to different stresses. mRNA stability is regulated by small RNA regulators and various proteins such as Hfq, CsdA, CspC and CspE. Finally, the cellular level of RpoS is regulated by proteolysis via RssB and the ClpXP protease.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the sigma-70 factor family. RpoS subfamily.

Sequence caution: The sequence BAE76818.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous termination at position 33. Translated as Gln.The sequence CAA34435.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally shortened. The sequence CAA78692.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally shortened.

Product Notes

The Sigma S rpos (Catalog #AAA680013) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 33-256. The mAb to Sigma S reacts with Most enterics and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Sigma S can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA), Transcription Inhibition. Transcription Inhibition - Initiation: Yes Western Blot: Yes - dilute at 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Sigma S rpos for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Sigma S, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
