1. UV spectroscopy at 280 nm using the absorbency value of 0.69 as the extinction coefficient for a 0.1% (1mg/ml) solution. This value is calculated by the PC GENE computer analysis program of protein sequences (IntelliGenetics).
2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a calibrated solution of Interleukin-13 as a Reference Standard.
Stability: Lyophilized IL-13 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -180C. Upon reconstitution IL-13 should be stored at 40C between 2-7 days and for future use below -180C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Recombinant interleukin-13 produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 110 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 12127 Dalton. Mouse IL-13 is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
This gene encodes an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells. This cytokine is involved in several stages of B-cell maturation and differentiation. It up-regulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching of B cells. This cytokine down-regulates macrophage activity, thereby inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This cytokine is found to be critical to the pathogenesis of allergen-induced asthma but operates through mechanisms independent of IgE and eosinophils. This gene, IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with this gene particularly close to IL4. [provided by RefSeq]
Uniprot Description
Function: Cytokine. Inhibits inflammatory cytokine production. Synergizes with IL2 in regulating interferon-gamma synthesis. May be critical in regulating inflammatory and immune responses.
Subunit structure: Interacts with IL13RA2.
Subcellular location: Secreted.
Involvement in disease: Defects in IL13 may be a cause of susceptibility to allergic rhinitis (ALRH) [
MIM:607154]. Allergic rhinitis is a common disease of complex inheritance and is characterized by mucosal inflammation caused by allergen exposure.
Sequence similarities: Belongs to the IL-4/IL-13 family.
Caution: It is uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-15 is the initiator.
Sequence caution: The sequence AAA36107.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally extended. The sequence AAA83738.1 differs from that shown. Product Notes
The IL13 il13 (Catalog #AAA650801) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: The sequence of the first five N-terminal amino acids was determined and found to be Met-Pro-Va l-Pro-Arg. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Interleukin 13, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
