• Protein Content: Protein quantitation was carried out by two independent methods:; 1. UV spectroscopy at 280 nm using the absorbency value of 0.751 as the extinction coefficient for a 0.1% (1mg/ml) solution. This value is calculated by the PC GENE computer analysis program of protein sequences (IntelliGenetics).; 2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a standard solution of IL-1a as a Reference Standard.
• Solubility: It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Rat IL-1 alpha in sterile 18M -cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
• Preparation and Storage: -20 degree C; Stability: Lyophilized Rat IL-1a although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -180C. Upon reconstitution Recombinant Rat IL-1 should be stored at 40C between 2-7 days and for future use below -180C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please avoid freeze-thaw cycles.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. This cytokine is a pleiotropic cytokine involved in various immune responses, inflammatory processes, and hematopoiesis. This cytokine is produced by monocytes and macrophages as a proprotein, which is proteolytically processed and released in response to cell injury, and thus induces apoptosis. This gene and eight other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2. It has been suggested that the polymorphism of these genes is associated with rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer's disease. [provided by RefSeq]

Function: Produced by activated macrophages, IL-1 stimulates thymocyte proliferation by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity. IL-1 proteins are involved in the inflammatory response, being identified as endogenous pyrogens, and are reported to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells.
