Uniprot Description

Pore-forming protein that forms cation-selective hydrophilic pores of around 1 nm and causes hemolysis. Pore formation is a multi-step process that involves specific recognition of membrane sphingomyelin (but neither cholesterol nor phosphatidylcholine) using aromatic rich region and adjacent phosphocholine (POC) binding site, firm binding to the membrane (mainly driven by hydrophobic interactions) accompanied by the transfer of the N-terminal region to the lipid-water interface and finally pore formation after oligomerization of several monomers (). This protein shows potent hemolytic activity (EC(50)=8.8 ng/ml) that is specifically inhibited by sphingomyelin. Shows no phospholipase A2 activity, nor antimicrobial activity against the four bacteria tested. Is lethal to crayfish (Ref. 1).

Product Notes

The BP-1 (Catalog #AAA636816) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. ELISA, Inhibition Assays, Western Blotting. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BP-1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BP-1, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
