NCBI Description

The Mediator is a multiprotein coactivator that is required by DNA-binding transcription factors for transcriptional activation of polymerase II (see MIM 180660)-transcribed genes. MED21 is a Mediator subunit predicted to reside in the middle module and appears to be a core subunit found in nearly all Mediator preparations (summary by Sato et al., 2004 [PubMed 15175163]).[supplied by OMIM]

Uniprot Description

MED21: Component of the Mediator complex, a coactivator involved in the regulated transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors. Belongs to the Mediator complex subunit 21 family.

Protein type: Transcription, coactivator/corepressor; Nuclear receptor co-regulator

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12p11.23

Cellular Component: Srb-mediator complex

Molecular Function: protein binding; DNA-directed RNA polymerase activity; transcription coactivator activity

Biological Process: regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; blastocyst development; transcription, DNA-dependent; stem cell maintenance; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter

Product Notes

The MED21 med21 (Catalog #AAA607871) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Suppressor of RNA Polymerase B (SRB7) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Suppressor of RNA Polymerase B can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Dilution: ELISA: 1:8000 Western Blot: 1:8000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MED21 med21 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Suppressor of RNA Polymerase B, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
