FGG, A 437 aa protein encoded by this gene is the gamma component of fibrinogen, a blood-borne glycoprotein comprised of three pairs of non-identical polypeptide chains. Following vascular injury, fibrinogen is cleaved by thrombin to form fibrin which is the most abundant component of blood clots. In addition, various cleavage products of fibrinogen and fibrin regulate cell adhesion and spreading, display vasoconstrictor and chemotactic activities, and are mitogens for several cell types. Mutations in this gene lead to several disorders, including dysfibrinogenemia, hypofibrinogenemia and thrombophilia. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms, gamma-A is the predominant, shorter but has distinct C-term compared to gamma-B.

Uniprot Description

FGG: Fibrinogen has a double function: yielding monomers that polymerize into fibrin and acting as a cofactor in platelet aggregation. Defects in FGG are a cause of congenital afibrinogenemia (CAFBN). This rare autosomal recessive disorder is characterized by bleeding that varies from mild to severe and by complete absence or extremely low levels of plasma and platelet fibrinogen. Patients with congenital fibrinogen abnormalities can manifest different clinical pictures. Some cases are clinically silent, some show a tendency toward bleeding and some show a predisposition for thrombosis with or without bleeding. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The FGG fgg (Catalog #AAA460352) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Rabbit anti Fibrinogen (gamma) Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Fibrinogen can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). ELISA: 0.01-0.1 ug/ml Flow Cytometry: 5-10 ug/ml Immunohistochemistry: 2-10 ug/ml Immunoprecipitation: 2-5 ug/ml Western Blot: 0.1-1 ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FGG fgg for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Fibrinogen, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
