NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the synaptotagmin family. Synaptotagmins share a common domain structure that includes a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic region composed of 2 C2 domains, and are involved in calcium-dependent exocytosis of synaptic vesicles. This protein has been shown to be a key component of the secretory machinery involved in acrosomal exocytosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]

Uniprot Description

SYT6: May be involved in Ca(2+)-dependent exocytosis of secretory vesicles through Ca(2+) and phospholipid binding to the C2 domain or may serve as Ca(2+) sensors in the process of vesicular trafficking and exocytosis. May mediate Ca(2+)- regulation of exocytosis in acrosomal reaction in sperm. Belongs to the synaptotagmin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Vesicle

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p13.2

Cellular Component: cell junction; cytosol; extrinsic to membrane; integral to membrane; plasma membrane; synaptic vesicle membrane

Molecular Function: calcium ion binding; calcium-dependent phospholipid binding; calcium-dependent protein binding; clathrin binding; protein binding; protein heterodimerization activity; protein homodimerization activity; syntaxin binding

Biological Process: calcium ion-dependent exocytosis of neurotransmitter; regulation of calcium ion-dependent exocytosis; vesicle fusion

Product Notes

The SYT6 syt6 (Catalog #AAA423112) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Goat anti-Synaptotagmin-6 Antibody reacts with Expected from sequence similarity: Human, Mouse, Dog, Pig, Cow and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Synaptotagmin-6 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Peptide ELISA (EIA). Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 8000. Western Blot: Preliminary experiments gave an approx 27kDa band in Human and Mouse Brain lysates after 0.1ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 48.4kDa according to NP_995320.1. The 27kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SYT6 syt6 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: HWHSLVEVKK SFK. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Synaptotagmin-6, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
