NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a cytoplasmic enzyme involved in energy homeostasis and is an important serum marker for myocardial infarction. The encoded protein reversibly catalyzes the transfer of phosphate between ATP and various phosphogens such as creatine phosphate. It acts as a homodimer in striated muscle as well as in other tissues, and as a heterodimer with a similar brain isozyme in heart. The encoded protein is a member of the ATP:guanido phosphotransferase protein family. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

Function: Reversibly catalyzes the transfer of phosphate between ATP and various phosphogens (e.g. creatine phosphate). Creatine kinase isoenzymes play a central role in energy transduction in tissues with large, fluctuating energy demands, such as skeletal muscle, heart, brain and spermatozoa.

Catalytic activity: ATP + creatine = ADP + phosphocreatine.

Subunit structure: Dimer of identical or non-identical chains. With MM being the major form in skeletal muscle and myocardium, MB existing in myocardium, and BB existing in many tissues, especially brain.

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the ATP:guanido phosphotransferase family.Contains 1 phosphagen kinase C-terminal domain.Contains 1 phosphagen kinase N-terminal domain.

Product Notes

The CKM ckm (Catalog #AAA311597) is an Antibody produced from Host: Mouse Source: Ascites and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MAb to CK-MM reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Creatine Kinase MM (CK-MM), Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
