Related Product Information for anti-SR-3A antibody
Serotonin (also designated 5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT) is a molecule that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone and a mitogen, and it is predominantly expressed in the gut, platelets and central nervous system (CNS). In the CNS, serotonin modulates several processes, including anxiety, sleep, appetite, behavior and drug abuse. In platelets and gut, serotonin plays a major role in cardiovascular function and motility of the gastrointestinal tract, respectively. Serotonin mediates its effects through several of G protein coupled receptors, designated 5-HT receptors or alternatively SR receptors. SR-3 is a ligand-gated ion channel, whereas all other known serotonin receptor subtypes are G protein-coupled receptors.

NCBI Description

The product of this gene belongs to the ligand-gated ion channel receptor superfamily. This gene encodes subunit A of the type 3 receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. This receptor causes fast, depolarizing responses in neurons after activation. It appears that the heteromeric combination of A and B subunits is necessary to provide the full functional features of this receptor, since either subunit alone results in receptors with very low conductance and response amplitude. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

5-HT(3): This is one of the several different receptors for 5- hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. This receptor is a ligand-gated ion channel, which when activated causes fast, depolarizing responses in neurons. It is a cation-specific, but otherwise relatively nonselective, ion channel. Belongs to the ligand-gated ion channel (TC 1.A.9) family. 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor (TC 1.A.9.2) subfamily. HTR3A sub-subfamily. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Channel, cation; Membrane protein, multi-pass; Transporter, ion channel; Channel, ligand-gated; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q23.1

Cellular Component: postsynaptic membrane; cell soma; axon; integral to plasma membrane; cytoplasm; plasma membrane; cell junction

Molecular Function: serotonin-activated cation-selective channel activity; voltage-gated potassium channel activity; serotonin binding; serotonin receptor activity; receptor activity

Biological Process: synaptic transmission; response to ethanol; transport; digestion; response to cocaine; transmembrane transport; serotonin receptor signaling pathway

Product Notes

The SR-3A htr3a (Catalog #AAA3002536) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SR-3A (W190) Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's SR-3A can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF). IHC: 1:50-1:200 IF: 1:50-1:200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SR-3A htr3a for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SR-3A, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
