This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate QKI in samples. An antibody specific for QKI has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any QKI present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for QKI is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of QKI bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

RNA-binding protein that plays a central role in myelinization. Binds to the 5'-NACUAAY-N(1,20)-UAAY-3' RNA core sequence. Acts by regulating pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA export, mRNA stability and protein translation. Required to protect and promote stability of mRNAs such as MBP and CDKN1B which promotes oligodendrocyte differentiation. Participates in mRNA transport by regulating the nuclear export of MBP mRNA. Also involved in regulation of mRNA splicing of MAG pre-mRNA. Acts as a translational repressor ().
