Related Product Information for CFD recombinant protein
Background: Mouse complement factor D, also known as Adipsin, C3 convertase activator, Properdin factor D and CFD is a secreted protein which belongs to the peptidase S1 family. CFD / Adipsin contains one peptidase S1 domain. Complement factor D (CFD / Adipsin) is a component of the alternative complement pathway best known for its role in humoral suppression of infectious agents. Complement factor D (CFD / Adipsin) has a high level of expression in fat, suggesting a role for adipose tissue in immune system biology. This protein is also a serine protease that is secreted by adipocytes into the bloodstream. Complement factor D (CFD / Adipsin) cleaves factor B when the latter is complexed with factor C3b, activating the C3bbb complex, which then becomes the C3 convertase of the alternate pathway. Its function is homologous to that of C1s in the classical pathway. Complement factor D (CFD / Adipsin) is a serine protease that stimulates glucose transport for triglyceride accumulation in fats cells and inhibits lipolysis. Defects in CFD / Adipsin are the cause of complement factor D deficiency (CFD deficiency) which predisposes to invasive meningococcal disease.

Description: A DNA sequence encoding the full length of mouse CFD isoform 2 (P03953-2) (Met 1-Ser 258) was expressed, with a polyhistidine tag at the C-terminus.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a serine protease that plays an important role in the alternative pathway of complement activation for pathogen recognition and elimination. The encoded preproprotein undergoes proteolytic processing to generate a mature, functional enzyme that in turn cleaves factor B in the complement pathway. This gene is expressed in adipocytes and the mature enzyme is secreted into the bloodstream. Mice lacking the encoded product cannot initiate alternative pathway of complement activation. Uniprot Description

CFD: Factor D cleaves factor B when the latter is complexed with factor C3b, activating the C3bbb complex, which then becomes the C3 convertase of the alternate pathway. Its function is homologous to that of C1s in the classical pathway. Defects in CFD are the cause of complement factor D deficiency (CFDD). CFDD is an immunologic disorder characterized by increased susceptibility to bacterial infections, particularly Neisseria infections, due to a defect in the alternative complement pathway. Belongs to the peptidase S1 family.

Product Notes

The CFD cfd (Catalog #AAA2546927) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Human Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The recombinant mouse CFD consists of 249 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 27.4 kDa. In SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, the apparent molecular mass of rm CFD is approximately 40-45 kDa due to glycosylation. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CFD cfd for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Adipsin / Complement Factor D / CFD, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
