NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the Jumonji domain 2 (JMJD2) family. The encoded protein is a trimethylation-specific demethylase, and converts specific trimethylated histone residues to the dimethylated form. This enzymatic action regulates gene expression and chromosome segregation. Chromosomal aberrations and changes in expression of this gene may be found in tumor cells. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2015]

Uniprot Description

JMJD2C: the histone demethylase implicated in the epigenetic reprogramming during the early embryogenesis. Preferentially expressed in undifferentiated ES cells. JMJD2C, along with JMJD1A, regulate self-renewal in embryonic stem cells. Specifically demethylates 'Lys- 9' and 'Lys-36' residues of histone H3, thereby playing a central role in histone code. Does not demethylate histone H3 'Lys-4', H3 'Lys-27' nor H4 'Lys-20'. Demethylates trimethylated H3 'Lys-9' and H3 'Lys-36' residue, while it has no activity on mono- and dimethylated residues. Two isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: EC 1.14.11.-; Oxidoreductase; Demethylase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9p24.1

Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; nuclear chromatin

Molecular Function: enzyme binding; androgen receptor binding; dioxygenase activity; zinc ion binding; histone demethylase activity (H3-K9 specific)

Biological Process: regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; establishment and/or maintenance of chromatin architecture; histone H3-K9 demethylation; transcription, DNA-dependent; positive regulation of cell proliferation

Product Notes

The KDM4C kdm4c (Catalog #AAA2001481) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Biotin-Linked Antibody to Lysine Specific Demethylase 4C (KDM4C) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Lysine Specific Demethylase 4C (KDM4C) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Western blotting: 1:100-400 Immunocytochemistry in formalin fixed cells: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in formalin fixed frozen section: 1:100-500 Immunohistochemistry in paraffin section: 1:50-200 Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay: 1:100-200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the KDM4C kdm4c for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Lysine Specific Demethylase 4C (KDM4C), Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
