Specificity
Anti-Rad51 [Murine MAb recognizes Rad51, a 37 kD protein that interacts with BRCA1 and BRCA2.]
This antibody recognizes human Rad51, a 37 kD protein that interacts with BRCA1. This interaction is important for tumor suppression. BRCA2 and Rad51 have also been shown to interact via the BRC repeats located with exon 11 of BRCA2. When these repeats are deleted, the interaction is lost, and cells become hypersensitive to DNA damage caused by methyl methanesulfonate (MMS).

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the RAD51 protein family. RAD51 family members are highly similar to bacterial RecA and Saccharomyces cerevisiae Rad51, and are known to be involved in the homologous recombination and repair of DNA. This protein can interact with the ssDNA-binding protein RPA and RAD52, and it is thought to play roles in homologous pairing and strand transfer of DNA. This protein is also found to interact with BRCA1 and BRCA2, which may be important for the cellular response to DNA damage. BRCA2 is shown to regulate both the intracellular localization and DNA-binding ability of this protein. Loss of these controls following BRCA2 inactivation may be a key event leading to genomic instability and tumorigenesis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

RAD51: a member of the RAD51 protein family. Involved in the homologous recombination and repair of DNA. Interacts with the ssDNA-binding protein RPA and RAD52, and it is thought to play roles in homologous pairing and strand transfer of DNA. Interacts with BRCA1 and BRCA2, which may be important for the cellular response to DNA damage. BRCA2 is shown to regulate both its intracellular localization and DNA-binding ability. Loss of these controls following BRCA2 inactivation may be a key event leading to genomic instability and tumorigenesis. Defects in RAD51 are associated with breast cancer. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been reported.

Product Notes

The RAD51 rad51 (Catalog #AAA190396) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Rad51 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunoblot, Immunoprecipitation. Immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation: use at 1-5 ug/ml. Positive control: T24 bladder carcinoma cells and recombinant fusion protein. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the RAD51 rad51 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Rad51, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
