Related Product Information for GLRX5 recombinant protein
Description: GLRX5 Human Recombinant produced in E Coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 177 amino acids (1-157 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 18.8 kDa. GRX5 is fused to a 20 amino acid His Tag at N-terminus and purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

Introduction: GLRX5 is small redox enzyme of approximately 100 amino acids which uses glutathione as a cofactor. GLRX5 is a mitochondrial protein, which is evolutionarily conserved. GLRX5 is oxidized by substrates, and reduced non-enzymatically by glutathione. GLRX5 is involved in the biogenesis of iron-sulfur clusters that are required for normal iron homeostasis. GLRX5 is necessary for normal regulation of hemoglobin synthesis by the iron-sulfur protein ACO1. Defects in the GLRX5 gene are a cause of anemia sideroblastic pyridoxine-refractory autosomal recessive (PRARSA).

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a mitochondrial protein, which is evolutionarily conserved. It is involved in the biogenesis of iron-sulfur clusters, which are required for normal iron homeostasis. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal recessive pyridoxine-refractory sideroblastic anemia. [provided by RefSeq, May 2010]

Uniprot Description

GLRX5: Monothiol glutaredoxin involved in the biogenesis of iron-sulfur clusters. Required for normal iron homeostasis. Required for normal regulation of hemoglobin synthesis by the iron-sulfur protein ACO1. Defects in GLRX5 are a cause of anemia sideroblastic pyridoxine-refractory autosomal recessive (PRARSA). A form of sideroblastic anemia not responsive to pyridoxine. Sideroblastic anemia is characterized by anemia of varying severity, hypochromic peripheral erythrocytes, systemic iron overload secondary to chronic ineffective erythropoiesis, and the presence of bone marrow ringed sideroblasts. Sideroblasts are characterized by iron-loaded mitochondria clustered around the nucleus. Belongs to the glutaredoxin family. Monothiol subfamily.

Protein type: Oxidoreductase

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 14q32.13

Cellular Component: mitochondrion; nucleus

Molecular Function: 2 iron, 2 sulfur cluster binding; electron carrier activity; metal ion binding; protein disulfide oxidoreductase activity

Biological Process: cell redox homeostasis; hemopoiesis

Disease: Anemia, Sideroblastic, Pyridoxine-refractory, Autosomal Recessive

Product Notes

The GLRX5 glrx5 (Catalog #AAA143716) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: MGSSHHH HHH SSGLVPRGSH MSGSLGRAAA ALLRWGRGAG GGGLWGPGVR AAGSGAGGGG SAEQLDALVK KDKVVVFLKG TPEQPQCGFS NAVVQILRLH GVRDYAAYNV LDDPELRQGI KDYSNWPTIP QVYLNGEFVG GCDILLQMHQ NGDLVEELKK LGIHSALLDE KKDQDSK. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glutaredoxin 5, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
