Uniprot Description

Function: Presynaptic neurotoxin that induces exhaustive neurotransmitter release from vertebrate (but not invertebrate) nerve terminals and endocrine cells. Binds to neurexin-1-alpha (NRXN1), latrophilin-1 (LPHN1), and receptor-type tyrosine-protein phosphatase S (PTPRS), and induces neurotransmitter exocytosis through two calcium-dependent mechanisms (membrane pore formation and signaling via latrophilin) and a yet to be defined calcium-independent mechanism. Induces rapid muscle contracture and loss of twitch tension when added to the isolated and indirectly stimulated chick biventer cervicis nerve-muscle preparation

By similarity.

Subunit structure: Homotetramer; Homotetramerization is triggered by calcium and is responsible for non-vesicular release and calcium-dependent vesicular exocytosis

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Secreted. Target cell membrane

By similarity. Note: Forms a membrane channel in the prey.

Tissue specificity: Expressed by the venom gland.

Post-translational modification: Processed by furin-like proteases at both the N- and C-termini.Contains 1 disulfide bond

By similarity.

Miscellaneous: Is the main neurotoxin responsible for the human envenomation syndrome known as latrodectism that results from bites by Latrodectus species.Iso and Leu residues are assigned by comparison with orthologs.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the latrotoxin family.Contains 22 ANK repeats.

Product Notes

The Alpha-latrotoxin-Lhe1a alpha-ltx-lhe1a (Catalog #AAA1105706) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli or Yeast or Baculovirus or Mammalian Cell and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 1-22aa; full length protein. The amino acid sequence is listed below: YAVQYASETL FSKSPEININ ER. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Alpha-latrotoxin-Lhe1a, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
